FAQ
  • Q: Who is authorized to lead a pilgrim group for registration? A: To ensure the spiritual and organizational integrity of the pilgrimage, all groups must be led by official Clergy (Priests or Deacons) or Consecrated Religious (Sisters or Brothers), with the exception of official animators. Animators must be individuals currently employed or officially appointed by a parish or diocese to oversee youth ministry. All groups must be formally recognized by their local church authority. Q: Why is there a strict leadership requirement? A: The Suwon Diocese is prioritizing the spiritual formation and safety of our young pilgrims. By requiring official clergy or diocesan-appointed youth directors, we ensure that every group has the consistent pastoral care and professional oversight necessary for this specific event.
  • Q: What does the schedule of events look like? A: The pilgrimage features a full itinerary of spiritual reflections, communal prayer, and cultural activities designed for youth groups. A detailed daily schedule will be provided to all registered groups via their Clergy or Religious Directors as the event date approaches.
  • Q: Do I have to stay with a host family? A: In a beautiful display of local hospitality, pilgrims will be hosted by local families in homestays or in parish facilities (such as auditoriums or retreat halls). Should you prefer staying in parish facilities to boarding with a host family, that can be arranged. However, other sleeping arrangements such as a hotel-stay will not be provided, nor recommended.  Q: How can I interact with my host family if I don’t speak Korean? A: Most families will be prepared with translation apps. We also provide a "Cheat Sheet" of AAC(Augmentative and Alternative Communication) for your stay in our diocese. This is a simple visual tool with icons and symbols representing common needs and wellness.  Q: Can I request a specific type of accommodation or a private room? A: Due to the large number of participants, we cannot accommodate individual housing requests. Placement is determined by the Diocese to ensure all groups are safely housed together. Most pilgrims should expect to share a room or sleeping space with at least one other member of their group.  In accordance with our safety guidelines, underage pilgrims will be housed with two adults of the same sex.
  • Q: Are meals provided during the pilgrimage? A: Yes, in part. For those in homestays, your host family will provide breakfast each morning, except for the day of arrival. On that day, your host family will provide dinner unless decided otherwise as a parish altogether. The arrangements for lunch and dinner will vary depending on your group’s daily schedule and specific programs. We also strongly recommend bringing supplemental snacks and medication if you have highly specific needs.
  • Q: What is the best way for visitors to travel in the Suwon Diocese? A: The most efficient way to travel throughout the Suwon Diocese is by utilizing the region’s highly integrated and user-friendly public transportation network. Visitors can navigate the Gyeonggi-Seoul metropolitan area seamlessly using a single transit card, which is valid for subways, buses, and many taxis. To benefit from cost-saving transfer discounts between different modes of transport, passengers should remember to tag their cards both when boarding and exiting each vehicle. For effortless navigation, real-time route planning is readily available via apps, while English signs and announcements at major transit hubs further ensure a smooth and accessible travel experience for all international guests.
